The order is not important. You can e.g. take 70-599 before 70-516. But you will only receive the MCPD certification once you passed all three exams.

Microsoft indicates Exams 70-506 (Silverlight) and 70-516 (data .Net 4) as "MCTS prerequisite" and 70-599 as "MCPD requirement". Does this mean that you have to take 70-506 and 70-516 before you take 70-599??

After taking the exam it's worth noting that if you know both XNA and Silverlight, some of the questions may seem ambiguous.

So it's worth noting the exam is pretty much Silverlight only, so keep that in mind.

The information about the certification requirements which was missing from the MCPD site is now online:

This finally clarifies that you indeed need exams 70-506 (Silverlight 4 Development) and 70-516 (Accessing Data with Microsoft .NET Framework 4) in addition to 70-599 to receive the MCPD certification. I will update the articles with this information.

Nice post. I did the beta of this exam. These didn't include any XNA or SL-specific questions. Of course, without a thourough SL-knowledge you'd be crazy to even consider trying this exam :)

Hi chucky. Nothing in the exam description and topics points to XNA specifically; also, the design and interaction guidelines for example do make a most general exception for games, stating that basically none of them apply to (fullscreen) games, which means there's hardly anything specific to games to test anyway. I personally would not expect any questions particularly to XNA. Most of the topics (data access, notifications, tasks and choosers etc.) do not depend on whether you use Silverlight or XNA though and hence apply to both.
