    In his latest 10 minute video tutorial, Victor Gaudioso demonstrates how to put the slider position in the slider tooltip.

    Recently I was asked to make a ToolTip that now only followed the Thumb of the Slider but also showed the value of what the slider was (see image above).  I thought about this and I came up with a pretty quick solution.  There may be other ways to do it but watch the short 1o minute video to see how I did it.

    Xianzhong Zhu has posted the first part of his tutorial on building Freecell in Silverlight 3.

    In the two parts of series, we are going to develop another Silverlight 3 based Freecell game like the one shipped with Microsoft Windows. Our main purpose to write this game is to continue to explore the mouse related operations supported in Silverlight 3. And also, in constructing this application you will learn the Silverlight 3-supported behavior related topics.

    Victor Gaudioso decided to make a tutorial on how to build your very own TutorialCam.

    It takes about 27 minutes but is much easier than you would think.  There are a lot of little things that you need to do but it is fun and when you are done you will be ready to make your very own Silverlight video tutorials just like me and possibly get MSFT MVP along the way.

    While preparing for a talk with John Papa on Silverlight TV, Jesse Liberty created two applications -  a traditional Silverlight (Web) application and a WP7 application using the same code. His purpose is to convince you that Silverlight programmers are instant WP7 programmers.

    There is no doubt that as you dive deeper into WP7 you’ll run into differences between creating Silverlight applications for the web and for the phone, but these are (and will be) well documented and relatively rare.  As an experienced Silverlight developer you are, really and not just hype, an experienced Windows Phone 7 developer.  That means that rather than concentrating on syntax or on the API, you can focus on the design of your application.

  • New Silverlight Video Tutorial: How to Create Fast Forward for the MediaElement

    0 comments  /  posted by  Silverlight Show  on  May 17, 2010 (1 month ago)
    Take a look at the last video tutorial of Victor Gaudioso where he is talking about the ability to fast-forward a MediaElement.

    As you probably already know there is no “built-in” way to accomplish Fast Forward with the Silverlight MediaElement.  So, in this 24 minute video I show you how to:

    1. Create a new Silverlight application;
    2. Add a MediaElement, a Fast Forward Button and a TextBlock for the video’s position information;
    3. Create a PlayState Enum and a DispatcherTimer
    4. Then on click of the button I show you how to a. Make the video Fast Forward at 1x speed and b. click it again for 2x speed.

    This is the first in a series of mini-tutorials by Jesse Liberty on Windows Phone 7 programming for Silverlight programmers.

    Goals:

    • Rapid introduction to Win Phone 7 for experienced Silverlight Programmers
    • Design and implementation of WP7 Silverlight HVP

    Audience: Silverlight Programmers who want to learn to program the new Windows Phone 7. Once the fundamentals are covered, the target audience will narrow to Silverlight Programmers who wish to participate in the Silverlight HVP Phone project

    Take a look at this SilverZine tutorial posted by Phil Middlemiss and find out how to animate the Silverlight opacity mask.

    In the context of animation, one of the biggest features in Flash that is missing from Silverlight 3 is an Opacity Mask layer. I haven't seen any mention of this in to Silverlight 4, but I could be mistaken. The only feature that we have in Silverlight 3 is the OpacityMask on each element, which is either a Brush or an image - (Image Brushes don't tile either, but that's a post for another day).

    In his latest video tutorial Victor Gaudioso explains how to load new pages into a Silverlight website.

    Toaday I got a comment from a blog reader named Fracisco…I think he wanted to know how to load new pages into a Silverlight website.  Just for him, and because I think many of you have the same problem, I made a video tutorial where I show you how to:

    1. Create a Content Holder UserControl;

    2. Make two pages called HomePage and AboutUs;

    3. In App.xaml load ContentHolder instead of MainPage.xaml (the default action of a SL app) [...]
