  • RadLoopingPanel – a look inside

0 comments  /  posted by  Silverlight Show  on  Nov 01, 2010 (2 weeks ago)

Georgi Atanasov from Telerik talks about the RadLoopingPanel and explains why Telerik’s RadDatePicker is the fastest date picker tool for Windows Phone 7.

    Source: Telerik Blogs

As I explained in this blog post, from the very beginning we tried to reuse the existing ListBox that comes with the Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools runtime. While the control is perfect for its general purpose – namely to display a certain amount of items within a scrollable box, it should be greatly tweaked to meet the requirements for the WP7 Date/Time picker (as specified in the official guidelines). The major difficulty we met was with the endless looping of a logical range of items within the list. Although we managed to find out a clever and reasonable solution through our Infinite ListBox, the performance was far away from perfect, not even satisfactory. So, we started all over from scratch and RadLoopingPanel was born.

Several weeks before the official release, the Telerik team decided to give a preview of some of the major new controls and features coming in Q3 2010.

As we announced in the beginning of this quarter we started working on a brand new scheduling component. Now that the first bits appeared you can find the new ScheduleView in the RadControls for WPF bundle. We decided to develop this new control as we wanted to prepare a really advanced Scheduling control that would fit in any application scenario. You can review the major features of the control on its product page.

Waltham, MA, June 16, 2010 - The assemblies’ size of RadControls for Silverlight and consecutively the size of your XAP file is no longer an issue thanks to a brand new tool – Telerik Assembly Minifier. The end-users will immediately feel the difference too, because the loading time of your Silverlight application will be significantly decreased.

Telerik Assembly Minifier allows you to choose a list of controls to be used in your application, analyzes the dependencies between them and then produces a new set of optimized assemblies. The new assemblies will contain only the selected controls and the resources used by them. Using the Assembly Minifier you can keep the downloaded size of your application to the bare minimum. Currently the tool supports only Telerik RadControls for Silverlight and is in Beta stage.

Utilizing the optimized assemblies is super easy - just replace the old ones and reference the new, optimized assemblies in your application.
