In this next Silverlight tip, Mike Snow discusses how to work with strokes and shapes.

When it comes to drawing shapes such as rectangles you are probably fully aware you can draw shapes specifying the Color and Thickness of the lines. This is done via the properties StrokeThickness for thickness and Stroke for color.

In episode 11, Mark Tucker is adding custom shapes to the particles Behavior.

Currently the ParticleControl creates only one shape. Circles. Wouldn’t it be great if you could specify the shape of the particles? That’s what I thought and I knew it could easily be done once I saw this discussion post on the CodePlex site for the Silverlight String-To-PathGeometry Converter.

In the first installment of this article Walt Ritscher showed some techniques for implementing circular animations. The trek continues in this installment where he shows you how to arrange elements evenly about the perimeter of a circle and how to recreate the Silverlight loading animation.

The Expression Blend designer makes it easy to arrange items around the perimeter of a circle. Arranging shapes in this fashion is a common UI pattern.

A common UI metaphor in recent times is the circular wait cursor or progress indicator. In this article Walt Ritscher shows some easy techniques within Expression Blend 2 that simplify creating this modern UI indicator.

After showing how to easily layout multiple child elements in a 360-degree pattern, I will show animation techniques for spinning, sizing and fading sub-elements.

    Introduction

Last week I’ve published the first part of this article about the Shape controls in Silverlight 2. Now it’s time for the second. We will focus on the Polygon, the Polyline and the Path. Although these controls look more complicated than the first three, still the most important thing is to use your imagination.

    Polygon

To create a Polygon we use the Points property of the control to define the positions of the polygon’s points. Each point has X and Y value separated with spaces.

    Introduction

In this article we are going to focus on the shape controls in Silverlight 2. These controls are very simple but they provide almost unlimited style possibilities, so make your imagination work and use them in a very creative and interactive way in every Silverlight application. There are six shape controls – the ellipse, the rectangle, the line, the polyline, the path and the polygon. In this article I’ll examine the first three of them, namely the ellipse, the rectangle and the line.
