Snake 7 for Windows Phone 7 As the title of the game suggests, this game is a remake of the classic snake game from the 70's. As with the original game you are going to navigate a snake as long as possible. The classic version was controlled by the arrow buttons of a keyboard or by the gamepad of a console. This remake is controlled by your fingers wiping the screen. This remake of snake does, in adition to the clasic mode, provide you with a new mode called: feeding mode. This new mode was designed with lots of attention to detail.

  • Writing a Windows Phone 7 Game

Bill Reiss has posted about WP7 "indie" games and some issues that he noticed.

    Source: Silverlight Games 101

Let me start by saying that I struggled with whether I should write this post. I really want the platform to succeed and I feel that raising awareness about the issues so that they can be fixed outweighs any negative publicity I may be giving Windows Phone in this post.

Well the initial numbers are in, and developers that have released apps and games on Windows Phone know how they’ve been doing. I don’t have any numbers on paid apps, but for paid games things aren’t looking too great. I’m talking about “indie” or “non-Xbox Live” games here, no idea how Xbox Live games are doing, but I would assume a lot better.

Festive game is built with Silverlight 4 and is hosted on Azure.

All you need to do to play the game is use the left and right keys to move the bouncing Santa. Increase your score by jumping up the clouds, make sure you don’t miss or it could be game over! Watch out for Santa’s run-a-way sleigh, it may drop bonus presents that you can catch for bonus speed. Collect six presents for a super speed bonus that will really send you up into new heights.

Gavin Wignall built a Festive game to promote Windows Azure using Silverlight 4.

Last year I created a Festive game for the Microsoft UK Partner team, with the creative help from our Metia team at Reading TVP, we managed to turn the game around in just one week! You can still play that game here: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/partner/game/

After the success of last year we were given the challenge again to create a simple fun Festive game with the focus to be on Windows Azure. Again, I was given the creative support from our Metia TVP team so that I could focus my time on building the game mechanics. Thankfully, this year our turnaround time had been lengthened to two weeks.

Sigurd Snørteland converted the famous Tetris game to Windows Phone 7 and included the source in this post.

I have converted another “normal” silverlight app to WP7. This time it’s a tetris-game (YYTetris) from YYGames. I have updated the user interface a bit and added a top score feature.

Andy Beaulieu is happy to announce that his first two applications for Windows Phone 7 are now on the Marketplace.

I have had a total blast since I first heard of Silverlight being the premier development platform for Windows Phone 7! If you've followed my blog, you know that I am a hobbyist game developer and have been creating casual games in Silverlight since the SL 1.1 Alpha (see them here). Like me, I hope you concentrate on having fun with WP7 and sharing your apps with others. And who knows, you might make a little money, 99 cents at a time!
