In this episode of Silverlight TV, Kenny Young of the Expression Blend team demonstrates how to create some impressive interactions with the help of Expression Blend 4 for Silverlight 4.

He demonstrates some great examples using the FluidMoveBehavior, FluidLayout, LayoutStates, Transition Effects, and sample data. Kenny then dives in and creates several of these interactions from scratch, showing exactly how easy it is to use Blend 4 to create rich Silverlight experiences.

In this new video, Victor Gaudioso is demonstrating how to do Silverlight HitTesting.

I was playing around and making a Silverlight game and I realized I needed to do hit detection, that is know when one object hit another. After some searching I came accross Andy Beaulieu’s blog where he writes about how to do it in a very effective way. I show how to implement Andy’s solution in this new video.

In this episode of Silverlight TV, Adam Kinney demonstrates how to take advantage of behaviors in Expression Blend 4.

He creates several demonstrations using the new DataStore and conditional behavior features in concert with several new behaviors including ChangePropertyAction, ControlStoryBoardAction, SetDataStoreValueAction, and the custom Mouse3DBehavior. Adam also shows how to create a custom behavior using code. Don't miss this episode as Adam discusses how behaviors can make the UI developer's job much easier.

In his latest video tutorial, Victor Gaudioso demonstrates how to add multiple bitmap effects to one object.

In response to my Twitter buddy Funwithcoding I made this post: In Silverlight you can only add one BitmapEffect (Blur or DropShadow) to one object at a time. But these effects are passed down to their child objects (inheritance).  For that reason we can use a little trick and apply multiple effects to one object (or so it appears).

David Anson has created a short video demonstrating how a Silverlight-based Windows Phone application behaves when you rotate the device. You can also download the code and use it in your WP7 apps.

I wanted to make it easy for developers to animate the orientation change of an application that occurs when the phone is rotated from its default portrait orientation to landscape. This is one of those cases where a picture is worth a thousand words, so I've created a short video showing the default behavior of a Silverlight-based Windows Phone application when the device (in this case the emulator) is rotated.

In this next episode of Silverlight TV, Arturo Toledo demonstrates all of the new content he and his colleagues have created to teach you to design and develop with Expression Blend and Silverlight.

He shows off some really cool samples, all of which you can download and do yourself through hands on-labs. Arturo walks through the .toolbox site and shows the numerous learning materials, videos, demos, and hands-on labs. If you have been looking for a comprehensive set of self-paced learning materials focused on designing  with Expression Blend, you should definitely watch this video and check out .toolbox.

In his latest 10 minute video tutorial, Victor Gaudioso demonstrates how to put the slider position in the slider tooltip.

Recently I was asked to make a ToolTip that now only followed the Thumb of the Slider but also showed the value of what the slider was (see image above).  I thought about this and I came up with a pretty quick solution.  There may be other ways to do it but watch the short 1o minute video to see how I did it.

Victor Gaudioso decided to make a tutorial on how to build your very own TutorialCam.

It takes about 27 minutes but is much easier than you would think.  There are a lot of little things that you need to do but it is fun and when you are done you will be ready to make your very own Silverlight video tutorials just like me and possibly get MSFT MVP along the way.

Jeff Brand has a short video on using TransitioningContentControl with Windows Phone 7 April CTP.

In my original screencast (read here or on Channel 9), I showed you how to use the Silverlight Toolkit’s TransitioningContentControl to add automatic transitions between pages of your Windows Phone 7 Silverlight application.  A few days after recording and posting that screencast, Microsoft released an updated version of the tools and the emulator.  Soon after, I started to get reports from folks watching my screencast that the TransitioningContentControl not only didn’t work with the April CTP release, but it prevented their entire application from running.
