Martin Krüger has created two sample projects which implement an alternative approach to create a Magnify Glass.

    Source: SilverLaw

The solution is using a genuin MagnifyEffect which is combined with a dynamic clipping path. The Magnify glass is movable and zoomable.

You can download the source code of the first sample project that demonstrates the basic technique at the Expression Gallery.

For a little while now I’ve been dropping small Silverlight tutorials onto the ActiveTuts site which is, primarily, geared towards Flash development.
The ActiveTuts guys have been a real pleasure to work with, have a very large following and are really good at making your work look professional.

In this short article, Martin Krüger describes how to let a Magnify effect gentle appear and disappear on MouseEnter and MouseLeave respectively and how to let the Magnify effect follow the mouse pointer.

Recently I published the Sample project "just fun" in the expression Gallery. Part of this project is an animated magnify effect. This effect works as I find - the example - so pretty cool, because the Visual element to which the effect is applied is a lens glass.

This article briefly describes how to smoothly animate a magnify effect. It is very easy to understand. The sample project can be viewed in the expression Gallery. There is also the source download available.

Mike Snow has a quick post on sound effects in Windows Phone 7.

Source: Silverlight Tips of the Day

To play sounds on the Windows Phone 7 you can make use of the SoundEffect library that comes with XNA even if you are building an application in Silverlight.

In the third part of this series, Jeremy Likness covers the "3D Panel" effect that he uses for his Projects page.

You've now learned how to create a custom panel and use it inside a listbox to create a custom carousel-style effect. I'm sure from here you can imagine the steps to center the panel, make a reflection, etc. that ultimately leads to full blown carousel controls. You should also realize by now that almost any type of UI paradigm can be created simply by styling the listbox.

Robby Ingebretsen was asked how he created the parallax effect on the nerdplusart.com homepage so he decided to post the code and a sample of the CameraPanel that he used.

    Source: NerdPlusArt

It’s actually pretty straightforward math to create that kind of effect (which I’m sure I borrowed from somewhere) and wrapped it up into a handy panel called CameraPanel when I was creating the landing page.

It’s called CameraPanel because it emulates a really simple 3D environment in which you position a Camera and then position objects in X, Y and Z space and then panel does the work of applying transfors and z-order so that everything works.

Jeremy Likness has created a transparent three-dimensional cube and a plasma effect.

    Source: C#er : Image

This weekend I was working a little bit on my personal web site (rewriting it again, to use some better themes and my Jounce framework) and decided it would be fun to tinker with some old school effects. I decided to focus on two specific things: a transparent three-dimensional cube, and a plasma effect.

  • Silverlight Pivot experiement

    Source: Silverlight Buzz

I recently looked into the Microsoft Labs Pivot tool which now allows you to place Pivot experiences within Silverlight projects. To learn this new technology I needed a source of data with correlating imagery to use as a test subject. Seeing as I used the “American Presidents” as one of my test subjects for a DeepZoom experiment over a year ago, I thought to myself, why not use them again.

First off I scrapped and grabbed as much data on all the 44 Presidents that I could find. This included everything from their birthdays, religion, salaries to how they died and more. Pivot takes all this data after it has been neatly constructed in an XML file and outputs it as a visual interface. This interface allows you to cross reference the data to compare your subjects in a visually attractive manor.

  • Effects in Expression Blend

In this blog post, Mike Taulty discusses the built-in and custom Silverlight effects that you can use in Blend.

    Source: Mike Taulty's Blog

Silverlight supports built-in and custom effects that you can easily use in Blend on the artboard.

I’ve got some text here inside a ViewBox on the artboard and I can find the properties of either the TextBlock or the Viewbox and apply an effect to it over in the Properties panel under the Appearance section.
