James Borck has a 6-page article in which he tries to compare Microsoft Silverlight 4 and Adobe Flash 10.1.

    Source: InfoWorld

The richest RIA platforms today (and for the foreseeable future) come from clashing titans Adobe and Microsoft, whose Flash and Silverlight platforms both combine excellent tools for developers and designers, broad client support, strong support for server-side technologies, digital rights management capabilities, and the ability to satisfy use cases as varied as enterprise dashboards, live video streaming, and online games. And each has spawned new updates, to Flash 10.1/AIR 2 and Silverlight 4 respectively, which put them on a near-level playing field. Which one should you choose?

The Crocus girl is sharing some code details and all the references for her Silverlight 2010 Resolutions App.

My initial goal was to create an interface with dynamic/random text placement. Text should also move in the z-index to simulate some kind of 3D space. Last year I had seen a company web site, which displayed its portfolio with a similar design; looking pretty interesting and fun to me.

In this post Rick Barraza is trying to explain the mathematics behind a premium page flip experience engineered in Silverlight.

Since Silverlight and Flash handle the mechanics of masking, clipping and rendering transforms differently, this tutorial is aimed primarily at Silverlight developers. However, the mathematical secrets behind the Page Flip technique are applicable to interactive developers in any language and this tutorial focuses primarily on explaining the rotational mechanics of the solution.

Automatically converting any Flash movie to Silverlight is a complicated task since Flash player and Silverlight runtime have different programming API and programming languages. But there are two tools that could help you with this task - SilverX and SilverBoom.

However, Flash movies without ActionScript and interactivity can be automatically transformed to Silverlight using two similar tools: SilverX - desktop application and SilverBoom - online service.

These tools take SWF file as a input and convert it to Silverlight solution or Silverlight XAP file (ready to run). Of course, these tools can not completely solve Flash to Silverlight migration task, but provide good Silverlight output on animations/cartoons and banners.
