  • Generate WPF and Silverlight Dependency Properties using T4 Templates

0 comments  /  posted by  Silverlight Show  on  Apr 28, 2009 (more than a year ago)

Colin Eberhardt has just finished a new article on codeproject in which he describes how to generate Dependency Properties from an XML declaration using a simple T4 template. It also includes a quick T4 primer.

This article describes a technique for code-generation of WPF / Silverlight classes which define dependency properties. The code-generation is performed using a relatively simple T4 template which reads an XML description of the classes and their associated dependency properties. T4 templates are a built-in code generator within Visual Studio, therefore, this technique does not require any third party frameworks or libraries; you can simply copy the template, create your XML file, and your classes will be generated for you!

Jason Jarrett wrote a T4 template that will generate all the reference.cs code needed in a Silverlight project.

My company has been developing out parts of our website using Silverlight to enable some rich client LOB scenarios. Since the companies inception, we developed in a Scrum/Agile manner 3-6 week iterations. However, recently we started experimenting with a more “feature driven” attempt at “lean” approach.

    2.1 Problem

ADO.NET Data  Services is a very powerful toy, but as many other cool Microsoft technologies it needs some workarounds to become usable in the real world applications.

Most of the problems are connected with the auto generated proxy which is created after the addition of a service reference.
