Telerik Aligns Its RadControls for Silverlight with the Latest Microsoft Innovations
Newton, MA, July 13, 2009 – Telerik, a vendor of development tools and user interface components for .NET, announced that its newest version of RadControls for Microsoft Silverlight 2 released on July 6, 2009 also supports Microsoft Silverlight 3. It ensures that developers can use RadControls for Silverlight with the latest official Silverlight plug-in. The launch of Silverlight 3 and Microsoft Expression Studio 3 demonstrates Microsoft is innovating in core areas critical to the changing design and development landscape. Telerik will be implementing the platform’s new breakthrough features shortly after the official Silverlight 3 release.
“Telerik has been a pioneer in Silverlight development tools since 2007, when we released the first-ever third party controls for Silverlight 1.0. Since then we have been very closely following the Microsoft Silverlight release schedule to make sure that a build against the latest official version is always available to our customers,” said Svetozar Georgiev, Telerik CEO. “We have aligned our development plans from the very beginning with Microsoft’s strategy for compatibility between Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight platforms. Currently 20 of our RadControls for Silverlight have identical WPF counterparts.”
As the Silverlight and WPF controls that Telerik provides are nearly identical, developers can re-use skills and code between the two platforms, maximizing the value of their experience and knowledge. Both the Silverlight and WPF suites are derived from the same code base and share the same application programming interface (API). This innovative approach enables developers to build mirror Web and desktop applications with identical user interfaces (UI) much more easily. Telerik made available a real-life business application demonstrating the benefit from code reuse between the Silverlight and WPF UI and from implementing the Microsoft Composite Application Guidance for WPF and Silverlight (code-named "Prism") to showcase the benefit Microsoft technologies provide.

RadControls for Silverlight features more than 30 advanced user interface components for Silverlight, to provide developers with a powerful toolset for building line-of-business Silverlight applications. The latest version of the controls brings major additions: the first commercial 3D chart available on the market that will help developers create stunning data visualizations; new full-featured RadScheduler for Silverlight that will enable developers to add Microsoft Office Outlook-style scheduling functionality to their Web applications; improved LINQ-based Data Engine that allows for faster sorting, grouping, filtering and aggregation; improved support for Microsoft Expression Blend; new integration example demonstrating integration of Telerik Drag & Drop for Silverlight with the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern.
