    Michael Brown has a very detailed article in the MSDN Magazine on RIA Services.

    I’ve developed an exemplar application, KharaPOS, to provide a tangible example of the concepts I present in this article. It’s a point-of-sale (POS) application implemented in Silverlight 4 using RIA Services, Entity Framework and SQL Server 2008. The ultimate goal is to enable the application to be hosted in the Windows Azure platform and SQL Azure, but there’s the little problem of Microsoft .NET Framework 4 support (or lack thereof) with the Windows Azure platform.

    At Lee's corner there is a quick example of Silverlight, Entity Framework and WCF RIA Services.

    Here is a quick sample, I did using EF, RIA services which involves CRUD operations when there is many to many relationship between tables.

    In the previous entry, Jesse Liberty created the design for the database. Over the next few postings, he’ll be working with that Data. The first article on the subject is now here and it is about extracting and transmitting Data.

    Over the next few postings, we’ll be working with that Data in five distinct ways:

    1. Gather data from the bloggers about themselves, their blog and each entry
    2. Store that data in a database
    3. Extract that data as needed from the database
    4. Transmit the data to a Silverlight application
    5. Display the data in a Silverlight application

    Shawn Wildermuth gives a brief overview of his first look at the July .NET RIA Services CTP.

    I've finally had a chance to take a look at the July CTP of RIA Services. My opinion is mixed, but its still pretty early. I ran through the simple walkthrough and it was easy to set up but it still felt as if there is too much Visual Studio magic (a complaint I've had for a long time now).

    I had a great time speaking at DevConnections in Orlando this year.  A lot of fun people were there and I had the opportunity to talk with several of them about some of the applications they were building.

    In a recent post Ian is looking at using Silverlight 2 and replicating validation logic from an Entity Model on the Server exposed via an Ado.Net Data Service.

    In Silverlight 3 we have seen that the Alexandria Framework will have a rich validation and business logic framework that is really very powerful and productive.  Silverlight 3 is due to be announced at Mix 09, and I would expect a CTP or Beta to be available then.

    But what can you do now?  Even if we get a go-live license on a SL 3 Beta it will be too early for many corporate teams to adopt.

    Sascha P. Corti from the Swiss MSDN Team announced that their team held a hands-on lab on how to create a line of business application from scratch on Windows Presentation Foundation using Visual Studio 2008 and Expression Blend 2.

    In the lab you will learn how to use WPF and the new WPF Control Toolkit to create such an end-to-end, data bound line of business application. You will leverage the Entity Framework to connect to the database, implement the new Data Grid to visualize data and the brand new Ribbon control and control styling to create a state a of the art user experience. Finally you will make your application capable of printing.
