Ian Lackey has posted the materials from his Silverlight SEO talk at the St. Louis .Net Users Group.

I just wanted to post a thank you to all that attended the talk Monday night and ask for any feedback that you might have. That was my first time speaking at the user group and am sure there is a lot of room for improvement. So please feel free to add comments to this article with suggestions on how I can improve or email them to me directly (ian at openlightgroup dot net). Also, I was hoping to provide a quick summary of links to some of the resource I mentioned.

  • Silverlight 4 + RIA Services - Ready for Business: Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Brad Abrams continues his series by discussing SEO and Silverlight.

The vast majority of web traffic is driven by search. Search engines are the first stop for many users on the public internet and is increasingly so in corporate environments as well.  Search is also the key technology that drives most ad revenue.  So needless to say, SEO is important.  But how does SEO work in a Silverlight application where most of the interesting content is dynamically generated?   I will present an application pattern for doing SEO in a Silverlight with the minimum of extra work.

The other parts of the series you can find here.

A few days ago, Terence Tsang launched a new site “Silverlight Resources Directory”. However, in order to attach more visitors from the search engine, he needs this new Silverlight site to be SEO (Search Engine Optimization) friendly.

Previously, I thought that the Navigation framework in Silverlight 3 is able to help me to index the pages in my Silverlight application. However, I was wrong. Frame and Navigation only help me to integrate with the browser hash value and it’s not related to SEO.

Therefore, I do something wise. I studied a lot about how Flash do SEO and come up a very simple solution.

Ian T. Lackey is talking about MVC to Silverlight page mapping and the SEO of Silverlight apps and is looking for input.

I have heard rumor that some of the spiders will start reading content from Silverlight apps; however, I personally do not want to wait for that to happen. Frankly, at this point I have not confirmed that it will happen by any credible source. So, I decided to see how difficult it would be to build a solution to this issue. What follows is my first attempt, and can (and probably will) be drastically improved from where it is today. This post, strays a bit from the typical format. I am documenting what I have done as opposed to showing a solution. In following posts I plan on cleaning this up and providing a step by step tutorial on how to do this.

Now, let’s take take a look at putting different views on this same application.  One of the key elements to supporting different views is deeplinking.

Brad Abrams has a post about using Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with Silverlight applications.

All great RIA applications have a meaningful client and server component to them.  Supporting SEO, or Search Engine Optimization in a RIA is an excellent example of using the client and server components.   It doesn’t mater how cool your applications are, if potential users can’t find your site via their search engine of choice (Google, Yahoo, Live, etc) then you are out of luck.  So it is important to plan for that upfront.

Just recently released is one on security in Silverlight development and deployment.  You can view some others (some older, but there are still some gems).
