  • Boss Launch 2: Zombie Attack for WP7

0 comments  /  posted by  Silverlight Show  on  Jun 21, 2010 (4 days ago)
Andy Beaulieu has a sneak peak of another little project he is working on for Windows Phone 7 called "Boss Launch 2: Zombie Attack".

This is the much-awaited sequel to Boss Launch, titled "Boss Launch 2: Zombie Attack" - in which you use your (normally useless) boss to take out a Zombie horde as you progress through many challenging levels. Things get interesting when you interact with vehicles (such as jumping into the back of a truck).

Don't miss this awesome interview of Pete Brown with Jeff Handley, Deepesh Mohnani, and Dinesh Kulkarni.

While on campus in May, I met with the WCF RIA Services team at Microsoft. We discussed both the awesome parts and the difficult parts of the recent product release.

Microsoft WCF RIA Services simplifies the traditional n-tier application pattern by bringing together the ASP.NET and Silverlight platforms. RIA Services provides a pattern to write application logic that runs on the mid-tier and controls access to data for queries, changes, and custom operations. It also provides end-to-end support for common tasks such as data validation, authentication, and roles by integrating with Silverlight components on the client and ASP.NET on the mid-tier.

In this article Kunal Chowdhury will teach you how to pin/unpin any Windows application to your Windows 7 taskbar directly from your Silverlight 4 out-of-browser application.

Microsoft released Windows 7 last year which has lots of functionalities including a nice UI. Among those features one of the most user friendly feature is Pin/Unpin application to Taskbar. You can develop WPF or Windows Forms applications in which you can implement this feature. But do you know that this is also possible in Silverlight? Yes, Silverlight 4 has the power to talk with any other application using the COM API. You can read one of my earlier article [Silverlight 4: Interoperability with Excel using the COM Object].

  • Simulating landscape mode with the Windows Phone Developer Tools April CTP

0 comments  /  posted by  Silverlight Show  on  Jun 21, 2010 (4 days ago)
In this post, Nick Gravelyn explains how to simulate the missing landscape mode for XNA applications on Windows Phone 7.

The current CTP for the Windows Phone Developer Tools does not include the final scaling/rotation logic that will automatically handle orientation for XNA Game Studio games. Because of this it can be hard to start working on a landscape game for Windows Phone.

This promo video is not just an advertise. It shows us a lot more. In my opinion, everything seems very nice. Take a look at all the animations. Don't you think that they look great? If you pay more attention when watching this video, you will see that in a slight moment it looks like Windows Phone 7 is synchronized with desktop via Wireless connection, but you can't explicitly say what kind of material is synced.

I'm not gonna keep you waiting. Here is the video:
