Find out why Shawn Wildermuth didn't like the MIX11 keynote!

    Source: Shawn's Blog

I didn't like the keynote. Period. If business application development is the big story (with media being a more minor story; or at least a smaller user base), why wasn't it highlighted at all in the keynote. In fact, the first demo (the Blue Angels) was a consumer facing *website*. The exactly thing we've been told that HTML5 is the perfect match for. To add insult to injury, the presenter made a point of saying the landing page was HTML5 and using the Video tag! It's a nice site, but its completely off message.

Shawn Wildermuth demonstrates through a short video the most important according to him update in WP7 NoDo - the copy and paste on the phone.

    Source: Shawn Wildermuth's Blog

I was playing with my newly updated Windows Phone 7 (with the March 2011 - or so called NoDo update). While I can attest I can sense the speed increase, especially in games and in tombstoning of applications; the big feature is copy and paste on the phone.

I recorded this short video to show how to use Copy/Paste (as well as how to repeat the operation:

The new version is now available that includes a couple of new features and a few bug fixes.  The changes include:

    InputPanelProvider

I find it painful to play the trial-and-error approach when specifying the InputScope of a TextBox. To alleviate this I've created an attached property where you can specify what you require from an input scope and have it assigned for you.  To use this you simply apply an attached property called InputPanelProvider.Requirements.

SilverlightShow Page for all Silverlight and Windows Phone 7 (WP7) things on TwitterIn this interview, John Papa asks Shawn Wildermuth to share more about the Phoney Tools.

    Source: Channel 9

Shawn walks through the features that Phoney contains, including his Bitly helper, system resource helper, fading message helper, phone logging, and more. Shawn and John inspect the API and show how easy it is to use, as well as the results you get from coding with these features. These are great utilities in a tiny dll that can really shorten the development time for some pretty common scenarios with Windows Phone 7. You can get Phoney from codeplex and it works with Nuget, too.

I started this project when I found I had a number of small classes that I'd built for my Windows Phone 7 application so I thought it was time to share. here is the information on the new library.

It is currently in a very early Alpha stage, but I expect to have it at a release version by MIX 11 (Mid-April). Let me know what you think!
