Alex Yakhnin explains how to display a progress bar with the splash screen image in Windows Phone 7 applications.

    Source: Alex Yakhnin's Blog

If you have seen the demo of the sample application "USGA Shot Tracker" that was created by the UX and design team at Microsoft to demonstrate the principles of the UX on WP7 platform, you have probably noticed how the app is displaying a splash screen with an animated progress bar. The problem is that the SplashScreenImage.jpg which is used in the WP7 applications is just a static image and a few people are wondering how this functionality could be achieved. I don't know how exactly it was done in this application, but this what I came up with.

Whenever you start with new project of Windows Phone 7, By default you will get on default splash screen as JPEG format titled as “SplashScreenImage”.This is a 10KB file,Default size of this Image is 480x800 and it is always recommended to keep the same even while you customize it.

Jason Zander demonstrates how to use Paint.Net to create transparent Windows Phone 7 Splash screen images.

With the new beta of the Windows Phone 7 tools out (and the delivery a cool new developer device to my office!) I’ve been updating my sample application and working through a few new features.  As I’ve done this I’ve found several things I’ve had to do some research on that I thought I would document to (hopefully) save you some time doing the same.  My next couple of posts will cover some of those topics starting with a quickie on splash screens.

John Stockton recently recorded an episode of Silverlight TV with John Papa where they discussed the creation of Splash pages in Silverlight. This post is a companion post to that episode so check it out to learn a lot of useful information.

Let me be clear about this, when I mention splash page I’m referring to a custom loading screen. This is a lightweight Silverlight application that runs while your main Silverlight application is downloading. Typically these will include things like progress bars, user tips, humorous statements or even news headlines.

Crocus Girl wanted to test the Adobe Photoshop File import feature in Expression Blend 3 and then she decided to take her plan one step further and create a sample Splash screen with her illustration files.Image

In order to observe the loading experience and get a chance to test a simple animation, I included two sample video files in the project. Therefore the initial loading is incredibly slow. The animation has no complicated tricks; it only manipulates the opacity property and runs forever in autoreverse mode. Actually it runs until you are hypnotized by all the blinking!
