In this post Karl Shifflett discusses one example application that he wrote for WPF Line of Business Tour at Redmond event called Stuff.

ImageIn its current form, Stuff is a demo application that allows you to store information about the movies you own.  It uses the Netflix OData cloud database for movie look up, which makes adding a movie to your collection very easy.

One goal for Stuff was that a developer could take the code, open it in Visual Studio 2010 and press F5 and run the application.  I didn’t want burden developers with setting up a database, creating an account to use an on-line service or have to mess with connection strings, etc.

Jesse Liberty has published a mini-tutorial on using Silverlight for creating desk-top utilities.

I had decided to create a list of what videos were already available on the Learning Pages of Silverlight.net.  When I clicked on the page for the entire list, however, I was quite daunted by the sheer number. I opened the “source” for the page, and found that there was an easy screen scraping capability, however. The name of each video was also a link to its landing page, and so I could grab the HTML and search for the appropriate links.

In this video tutorial Victor Gaudioso talks about building a Behavior for a Slide in/out Navigation bar.

In this video tutorial I show you how to use Behaviors and the Visual State Manager to create a navigation bar that slides in when the user places their mouse at the top of the page and then slides away when they move their mouse away from the navigation.

In the following tutorial Paul Yanez demonstrates how extensive the font capabilities in Silverlight are.

Being able to display beautiful fonts within xaml allows the ability to programmatically alter a designed font with gradients and drop shadows applied.

In this tutorial Paul Yanez demonstrates how to make a Silverlight application that takes up the entire webpage and has the capability to go full screen.

This will allow you to create Silverlight applications that take up 100% of the width and height of html pages.

In this new video tutorial, Victor Gaudioso explains how to create gradients in Expression Blend.

In doing a lot of speaking engagements I get asked lots of Silverlight questions.  From these questions I have noticed a pattern emerging whereby many people have a terrible time working with gradients.  Of course the real trick, as is with anything, is practice but before one can start to practice they have to understand the tools of the trade.  So, in this short, 10 minute video I show you how to duplicate a somewhat complex gradient while along the way explaining the tools required to do the job; namely, the Gradient tool, the color palette and the Gradient Eyedropper tools.

Victor Gaudioso has a new video tutorial demonstrates how to develop a Behavior that can be attached to objects in or out of Styles that allows you to specify what Method they need to fire.

Recently I had a developer ask me how he could fire an event from the CheckBox that I had put in the Style of the UserControl I gave him.

I thought about it and, the problem is that objects in a Style are not really part of the Visual Tree until the Style is attached at runtime.

If you don’t have touch device but want to develop multi-touch Silverlight application for Windows Phone 7, this post of Michael Sync might be very useful to you.

If you prefer to watch the screen-cast created by the original developer of Multi-touch Vista, you can watch it here. But as there is no audio and the way that he presented is a bit fast for the most of viewers, I decided to write the step-by-step tutorial based on his screen-cast. I give the full credit to the original developer of Multi-touch Vista. He has done very good job.
